The husband ands wife team were traders and early pioneers of the settlement of Bagan and later the town of Batu Pahat. They built the house of Kendal on wealth created from tobacco, betel nuts and coffee.

Keeper of Tradition
AJES is not a member of the House of Kendal but he has been the only traditional coffee processor and roaster left in the Village. We learn a lot from AJES. Without a processor like AJES all farmers would have chopped down their trees/

This guy manufactures roaster machines in his backyard. Limited his knowledge and resources but he produced roasters by trial and error

The story of of Malaysian coffee is a sad story of agricultural neglect much affected by the industrialization of Malaysia. Coffee trees fell victim to oil palm, the automobiles and the steel mills.
We are determined to revive this industry.

The Liberica story is a sad story of agricultural neglect much influenced by the industrialization of Malaysia, Before the 1990’s the Malaysian Coffee research was in the world top league. In the 90s under the the government industrialization policy, agriculture was de-emphasized, affecting research, marketing and utilization of labour. The coffee industry collapsed. Coffee trees fell victim to oil palm, the automobiles and the steel mills.
The few crazy coffenistas now are determined to revive this industry and present to the world coffee community the exotic and unique single origin coffee from Malaysia.
